Tomáš Šebek is a general surgeon working at the František Hospital in Prague. In 2004, he founded a company responsible for an exceptional project in the field of online communication between patients and doctors – the portal uLékaře.cz and its specialized counterpart proLékaře.cz. In 2010, he joined the international organization Doctors Without Borders, with which he continues to travel on missions to crisis areas around the world. His first mission took him to earthquake-devastated Haiti. He worked twice at the Doctors Without Borders trauma center in Kunduz, Afghanistan. He also provided medical care to people in Abyei on the border between Sudan and South Sudan. In total, he completed six missions with the organization, most recently serving in war-torn Yemen. He described his mission experiences in blogs, which were subsequently published in book form.
