The Plan is nothing, planning is everything (DZT4)

A number of interesting debates accompanied the fourth module of the course entitled "Planning, purchasing strategy, supply chain management" and it was again rewarding to see how the purchasing craft is viewed in companies (Jan Hirsch, Blanco) and in the public sector (Ondrej Kuruc, MZSR). In the beginning, we focused on planning, creating a plan and how the plan should serve us - control, direction indicator, tool for setting goals, relationship with suppliers. Thanks to the very apt slides and announcements from the film The Brave Seven, we understood that this gem of film cinematography is actually a well of inspirational topics for every buyer, which contributed to the excellent mood in the hall.

At the beginning of the second block, the survey question "Do you know Mr. Kraljic and his matrix" followed, and the unequivocal answer of 70% was no. The following minutes therefore belonged to this matrix and a demonstration of how this matrix is crucial for the creation of purchasing strategies and for any planning. Jan Hirsch introduced us to the four quadrants of the Kraljic matrix – non-critical items, leveraged items, bottleneck items and strategic items.

The conclusion of the first part belonged to suppliers and the supply chain. There were preparatory market consultations, "Meet the Buyer" events and the question was raised whether the public sector, as well as the corporate sector, should think about "Whether it is an interesting customer for its supplier and therefore why the supplier should want to work with me cooperate?", because we already know from previous blocks that suppliers are a clear source of innovation, technological development and growth for us.

Michal Barč (Konica Minolta IT Solutions Czech) then vividly showed us the possibilities of Microsoft 365 with a focus on three basic areas – planning purchasing activities, implementing purchasing activities and concluding a contract. It was inspiring to see how a form for a purchase case was created through the FORMS application and routine planning, approval and other steps were automated through Power Automate. Petr Musil (Dun & Bradstreet) took us into the world of data and introduced the Dun & Bradstreet Data Cloud and reminded us of the possibilities of their use, for example, to verify conflicts of interest, sanction lists and the condition of suppliers.
