Martin Smatana

Martin studied at Oxford and Imperial College, London, from where he graduated in Health Management. He worked in England as an analyst for the NHS. For more than a year, he inspected hospitals in the Central Bohemian Region. From 2016 to 2020, he led the Health Policy Institute. In addition, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of the National Health Insurance Fund and Chairman of the Categorization Commission for Specialized Medical Supplies at the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. Martin also works with the Association for the Protection of Patients' Rights and is an advisor to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, and Ministry of Social Affairs. Martin is the author of several publications and a member of the European Commission's Social Protection Committee. As part of his tenure at the Ministry of Health, Martin launched a benchmarking exercise for medical equipment prices and created a price map for consumer goods and special medical materials. He prepared technical specifications for central procurement of instruments and created several standardized data sets for the purchase of medical equipment.
